To be fair, the word document was a step in the right direction, something to look at and agree upon together, but compared to a picture, it was lacking in many fundamental ways. The conversation was making my head hurt. The scenarios were complex, involving multiple dependent parties and an unclear separation of domain ownership and responsibilities. We were having a discussion about how our two services needed to communicate through api calls and event messages. A wave of relief washed over me as the screen share switched from word document to whiteboard, and a link sent through the zoom chat gave me edit access to the wonderfully empty workspace of the tool.
“Let’s draw a picture.” said a fantastic colleague of mine, in a particularly low-blood sugar part of an afternoon meeting. A Picture is Worth 1,000 Words (and a Lot Less Headache)
